Designed by Bates Smart, Constitution Place is a vibrant, active urban precinct that brings together government and private offices, a hotel, laneway retail and new public spaces. It draws on the civic heritage and pastoral beauty of the Griffins’ vision, and exemplifies how thoughtful architecture can shift Canberra’s architectural fabric into a new era of robust and enduring design.
The wayfinding and signage system plays an essential, functional role in enhancing the visitor experience, guiding individuals efficiently through the layout of the building’s A-grade workplace. Locally manufactured and installed by Owens, the integration seamlessly blends with the architectural and interior aesthetics.
Purposefully positioned across differing materials, a considered sequence of signage pieces guides visitors through the complexities of a multi-level site with a community of commercial tenants, basement carpark and end-of-trip facilities, and incorporating retail signage via an activated pedestrian laneway that connects Constitution Avenue to the Legislative Plaza and the Canberra Theatre.
The basement carpark experience is enlivened with a series of bright graphic treatments painted directly to the raw concrete surfaces, leading visitors down to the employee end-of-trip experience facilities and beyond.

In response to Bates Smart’s sophisticated architecture, the commercial interiors feature thoughtful signage pieces in aluminium and linished bronze that seamlessly blend with the internal aesthetic.
