Senior Designer

We are looking for a talented and detail-oriented Senior Designer to join our high-performing team.

Ideal applicants should have strong industry experience across multiple sectors, and an exceptional body of work demonstrating a high level of conceptual thinking and design craft, with a great attention to detail.

Must have a minimum of 5 years experience in a design studio environment.

This role is offered as full-time employment working a nine-day fortnight, following a short probationary period.

Additional experience in account management, and a genuine interest and understanding of holistic brand experience, strategy and planning would be a huge bonus.

Our Canberra (Australia) studio is nestled in the leafy suburb of Kingston. Remote working may be considered under select circumstances.

Swell is an award-winning creative studio founded in 1997.

Our clients range in size and span timezones and sectors, including health, hospitality, property, corporate, sport, retail, and beyond. Our expertise covers brand identity, strategy, print, packaging, digital design and development, campaign advertising, and more.

Swell is an intentionally small team. We are non-hierarchical in the sense that everyone contributes their talents and skill sets to create remarkable work. You will also need to answer the phone and take out the rubbish—we share the load in every sense.

Ideally, you have a minimum of 5 years experience in a design studio environment.

You will be required to take ownership and lead projects, turning written briefs into strategic, highly conceptual, and beautifully crafted pieces of design communication.

You have excellent time management skills and understand how to prioritise what’s urgent and important in a fast-paced workplace.

You are a great communicator, able to present your ideas clearly and enthusiastically to both the team and clients.

You will work alongside all members of our team—contributing ideas, helping problem-solve, and sharing your skills and experience.

You have a sharp eye for design craft and a deep love of design, strategy, typography, colour, art direction, styling, and brand systems.

You understand the importance of timelines and budgets, and are committed to helping Swell meet both. You have the ability to be flexible, and quick to adapt when priorities shift.

You will actively contribute to a fun, energetic, and high-performing workplace. You’re dedicated to doing the absolute best that can be done on any given opportunity, with the support of the team around you.

Additional skills such as strategy, animation, illustration, retouching, and digital design will be a huge bonus.

Base salary is determined by skill and experience.

Profit share is available to all team members. Bonuses are based on tenure, and both individual and company performance.
